Taeko, born and raised on the outskirts of Kyoto, Japan, was inspired by her father's and grandfather's traditional Japanese music and has been singing as long as she can remember. In 1998, Taeko came to New York City with dreams of expanding her singing career and took a strong liking to Jazz. The intense jazz study, coupled with her naturally appealing voice and musical ideas, have earned her performances in some of New York City's best known Jazz and R&B clubs, including Blue Note, Ashford & Simpson's Sugar Bar, Lenox Lounge, and Zinc Bar. Her musical talent is also bought to Japan every spring and fall. Taeko performs with great jazz giants today such as Onaje Allan Gumb, Harry Whitaker, George Colligan, Kenny Davis, Dwayne Burno, Jim Cammack, Marcus McLaurine, Essiet Essiet, Vic uris, Yoshiaki Masuo, to name a few. Taeko’s most recent CD ONE LOVE is to be released from Flat Nine Records, Inc. in fall 2007. |

Love CD Review by Jazz Improv NY Magazine Written by Jordan Richardson May 2008 Issue Taeko Fukao is a singer with a wide range of tastes and a wide range of capabilities. Her latest release "One Love" is an eclectic collection of modern jazz compositions and standards from the bop era, as well as the post and pre-bop eras, plus a couple of surprises (the title track among them). Fukao has the swingin’ sensibilities to deliver spirited scat solos on medium swingers as well as the depth and poignancy required for gentle ballads ( of which there are many on One Love). She has assembled a band that supports her comfortably when called for, and spurs her on to new heights when she’s soaring. One Love is an interesting and tasteful modern jazz recording. |
