Born and raised in Japan, Taeko came to New York City in 1998 with dreams of expanding her singing career and discovered the world of Jazz. Her intense jazz study, coupled with a naturally appealing clear voice and unique musical ideas, have earned her performances in some of New York City's best known jazz clubs, including Blue Note, Minton’s Playhouse, Kitano, and Zinc Bar. Taeko also tours Japan every year. She is scheduled to perform at various jazz festivals in the US in 2009. Taeko’s new CD “ONE LOVE” (2007/Flat Nine Records) is one of the best vocal albums in recent years that introduces the young star. Taeko combines Ella-Fitzgerald-like scatting and Anita-Baker-like soulfulness. “An interesting and tasteful modern jazz recording” said Jazz Improve NY Magazine. |

2008 Vocalist Taeko Fukao celebrated her new album, One Love at the Kitano Hotel on June 4, 2008. A good crowd turned out for the event. Taeko was wearing a beautiful dress: a beige mesh over satin. The singer, who has a very appealing voice, made it to the final 12 of the Jazzmobile Vocal Competition this year, and she works well with her trio of outstanding jazz musicians. Read More… |

| Written by Jordan Richardson May 2008 Issue Taeko Fukao is a singer with a wide range of tastes and a wide range of capabilities. Her latest release "One Love" is an eclectic collection of modern jazz compositions and standards from the bop era, as well as the post and pre-bop eras, plus a couple of surprises (the title track among them). Fukao has the swingin’ sensibilities to deliver spirited scat solos on medium swingers as well as the depth and poignancy required for gentle ballads ( of which there are many on One Love). She has assembled a band that supports her comfortably when called for, and spurs her on to new heights when she’s soaring. One Love is an interesting and tasteful modern jazz recording. |
